TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

As part of an ongoing plan for expansion, Hiland Dairy Foods is requesting a four-year tax abatement package with the promise of creating 80 new jobs.

The city council will consider the proposal at its meeting Wednesday morning.

The Missouri-based company expanded to Tyler in February 2017. In July 2018, the company requested a road closure to connect its north and south side’s properties.

As part of the proposal, Hiland will get a full abatement for three years and a 50-percent abatement in 2024. The company would add 40 jobs in 2019, another 30 in 2020 and 10 in 2021.

The average pay for the new positions is estimated to be $50,000 per year, according to the city council packet.

Barry Beaman, the general manager for Texas operations, issued a statement Monday morning.

“Hiland Dairy is appreciative of the assistance the Tyler City Council is considering,” he said. “The program will assist in the expansion of our Tyler facility which will improve our capabilities and also create new jobs.”
